Leaving your job

Leaving a job with an employer participating in the plan? Find out what you can do with your plan contributions.

Apply for an immediate pension

If you leave your job and are 55 or older, you can apply to begin receiving your pension right away.

Your pension may be reduced if you do not meet minimum age and contributory service requirements.

Pensionable service earned before January 1, 2018, is treated differently than pensionable service earned on and after January 1, 2018. This means that one part of your pension could be reduced and the other part unreduced.

For pensionable service earned before January 1, 2018, you will receive an unreduced pension if you are:

  • Between the ages of 55 and 59, and your age plus years of contributory service totals 90 or more
  • Between the ages of 60 and 64, and have at least two years of contributory service
  • 65 or older

For pensionable service earned on or after January 1, 2018, you will receive an unreduced pension if you are:

  • Between the ages of 55 and 60, and have at least 35 years of contributory service
  • Between the ages of 61 and 64, and have at least two years of contributory service
  • 65 or older
