Al Cornes

Al Cornes joined the board in January 2022. He was appointed by the British Columbia Teachers’ Federation.

A retired teacher, Al has more than 40 years’ experience in the education sector. This includes more than 25 years working and advocating for stronger pensions and benefits for teachers and educators.

In addition to his role on the board, Al currently serves on several BCTF and BC Retired Teachers’ Association pension committees.

Previously, Al served as assistant general secretary of the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association and trustee of the Ontario Teachers’ Insurance Plan. With the BCTF, he has served as assistant executive director, administrator of the BCTF Staff Pension Plan, director of bargaining, and assistant director of income security (pensions).
