Name or change your beneficiary
If you haven't retired yet, you can submit or update your beneficiary information.
Provide your beneficiary information in one of three ways.
Choose which option is best for you
1. Nominate a beneficiary in My Account
- Name as many beneficiaries as you want
- Beneficiary information is instantly updated with us
2. Complete an online beneficiary form
- Name up to two beneficiaries
- Complete and sign the form digitally
- Form is automatically submitted to us. The form will be processed in the order that it was received. It may take two to four weeks depending on the number of requests received
Note: If you choose to use this option, these Terms and conditions apply to your use of the digital signature tool.
3. Submit a paper form
- Name as many beneficiaries as you want
- Complete and submit the paper from by Message Centre in My Account, mail or fax
- Form will be processed in the order that it was received. It may take two to four weeks depending on the number of requests received
Gather your beneficiary information
Have this information ready to nominate one of the following:
A person
- Full name
- Relationship to you
- Date of birth
An organization
- Full legal name (including branch or chapter, if applicable)
- Canada Revenue Agency registration number (recommended)
A trust
- Trust account number (if available)
Submit your beneficiary information
Option 1: Nominate a beneficiary in My Account
To update your beneficiary information:
- Sign into My Account
- Click Beneficiaries
- Click Update beneficiaries
- Follow prompts
Option 2: Complete the form using the digital signature tool
- Provide your personal information (Full Name, email address) to receive a secure link to the online beneficiary form
- Complete the nomination of beneficiary form sent to the email address you provided
If you haven’t received the email within 10 minutes, check your junk/spam folder - Digitally sign and submit your form, which is sent directly to us
Option 3: Submit a paper form
- Download and complete the Nomination of beneficiary (pre-retirement) form
- Print, sign and date the form
- Attach a copy to a message using Message Centre in My Account, or mail or fax a copy to us
If you are naming more than two beneficiaries or wish to name alternate beneficiaries, include this information on a separate sheet and attach it to the form. To be valid, the sheet must include your name and signature dated with the same date as on the form.
Will
You can also name beneficiaries in your will.
If you have a spouse
If you are married or in a common-law relationship of more than two years, your spouse may be entitled to your death benefit. Your spouse may choose to waive their right to a death benefit.
If you are a limited member
If you're a limited member, you can name a beneficiary to receive your portion of a former spouse's pension benefit when you die.
